DoorDash kicked a Dasher off of its platform after a Ring doorbell camera caught him spitting on a customer's food.
On Saturday, Sept. 9, 2023, 13-year-old Elias Crisanto and his mother ordered food to their home in Kendall, Florida, south of Miami, as he told WPLG Local 10.
The family's Ring camera shows the moment the delivery man dropped off the food.
Watch the video below to see the moment the DoorDash driver was caught spitting on the customer's food order.
The driver drops the bag of food on the door mat before stepping back to take a picture of it. He looks at his phone a moment longer, looks around, and then steps forward to spit on the bag he just delivered three times. Then he walks away
“My reaction was I wanted to throw up,” Crisanto told WPLG. “It’s so disgusting. I mean, who does that?”
Crisanto said that he believed the driver was unhappy about the tip. The family paid approximately $30 for the food and added a $3 tip.
He reached out to DoorDash about the incident. Initially the company denied his request for a refund, he said but changed its mind when he spoke with them on the phone.
According to a statement released to NBC6 South Florida, the dasher was removed from the platform.
“While we empathize with the frustration of not receiving a tip, this behavior is unacceptable and falls far below the high quality experience we aim to provide. We have removed the Dasher from our platform and have reached out to the customer directly to help make things right," the statement from DoorDash stated.
